About Our Worship Services

Every worship service includes a combination of readings from the Bible, songs and prayers, a time of confession and absolution, a sermon, an offering, and Holy Communion. Baptisms are celebrated with frequency. A typical service lasts about 60 minutes long. Our services make use of hymns, choral and instrumental music, and today’s modern worship music. Each service offers preaching, drawn from Scripture, that speaks to everyday life and is centered on Jesus, His redeeming work for us, and the life as a disciple.

Our Worship services are Saturday at 4:30pm, Sunday at 8:00am & 10:30am, and Monday night at 6:30pm.

New Member Welcome Event

The New Member Welcome Event is where it all begins. Over lunch, we’ll answer your questions, introduce you to church leaders, and share how God is moving in and through the people of St. John Lutheran. Whether you are exploring Christianity for the first time or have been a long-time believer, our conversations together will assist you in your walk with the Lord. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with a variety of people who make up the SJL family and hear how connecting to Jesus and the SJL family has changed their lives. Email us at office@sjlplymouth.com and we’ll be in touch with you about the upcoming date.

Kids' Ministry

All Children (3K – 5th Grade) are invited to gather for Kids Ministry time. These special classes provide opportunities to hear Bible stories, sing songs, make new friends, and learn of their Savior, Jesus Christ, in an age appropriate setting. Our mission is to help your child learn to love the God who created and saved them in Jesus. And we want to make lifelong memories and friendships along the way. Kids Ministry groups meet on Sunday (in the School classrooms) from 9:30-10:15 AM.

Confirmation

Confirmation classes are open to youth of the congregation and their friends. Confirmation instruction occurs in 6th, 7th, & 8th grade. During this time, youth are formally taught to best appreciate what God has done in their lives with the gift of faith begun at their baptism. After considerable study they are given the opportunity to “confirm” that faith and to dedicate themselves towards greater faith maturity, especially in confessing the truth of the Scriptures.

St. John Lutheran School Instruction

  • 6th & 7th grade classes are taught by the school teachers. 8th grade classes are taught by the pastors.
  • Classes occur each day.

Midweek Public School Instruction

  • 6th grade classes are taught by Miss Katrina Johns, DCE.
  • 7th grade classes are taught by Pastor Thompson.
  • 8th grade classes are taught by Pastor Schultz.
  • Classes occur, during the school year, on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 PM.
Sunday Morning Education for All

Jr. High students (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) are invited to attend a Bible class just for them. Every Sunday morning from 9:30-10:15 students are led through understanding the Bible and how God’s Word shapes our lives. Mrs. Paula Huebschman leads this group in the conference room next to the school cafeteria.

Sr. High students (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade) have a Bible class in the youth room during the education time on Sunday mornings. From 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM, High School students read through and discuss the many books of the Bible…bit by bit. Being a part of this class helps in reinforcing a strong Faith base.

Adults are encouraged to come to the cafeteria to participate in a Bible class led alternately by Pastors Schultz and Thompson. Sometimes the conversation is guided by the Pastors and sometimes the conversation is guided by questions from the attendees. Every week provides a thoughtful experience to dwell on through the week.
